Billy's Story
Billy’s House was founded in memory of Billy E Johnson, Jr. Born in Dayton, Ohio on 06/20/1971, Billy learned how to play the drums at a very young age. He had a strong love for music, fishing, and above all, his family. Billy had a contagious laugh, a bright smile, and a heart of gold. If there was one thing he would have done before leaving this earth, it would have been to learn how to love himself, beat addiction, and to teach others in similar walks of life how to do the same.
Below is one of the last entries from Billy’s journal. On behalf of Billy, I hope it helps someone.
"If you are struggling with addiction and it has a hold on you and you feel like it won’t let you go, remember that Proverbs 21:2 says, "A person may think their own ways are right but the Lord weighs the heart." Addiction is ran to repeatedly as a means of escape. It becomes one’s safe place. It is easy to want to run to it in secret and hold on to it. Matthew 26:41 says to "watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." When the urges begin to get stronger, examine yourself. What have you been thinking about? What did you experience throughout your day? How did it make you feel? There is a pattern that needs to be discovered, then interrupted. Isaiah 40:10 says, "so do not fear for I am with you do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." The addiction is the fruit. Your reason for choosing it, is the root. If you only remove the fruit, it just grows back because the root is still there. Removing the root will remove the fruit.
